koreanfilm.org.uk - a gateway into the most exciting film market in the world

Darcy Parquet, somewhat of a scholar when it coms to Korean film is the man behind one of the most comprehensive Korean film website's in English, www.koreanfilm.orgThis site has no connection to mine, though I often use it as a base for my research.

The following sites are also great sources of information for Korean Film:

KBS News (Korean) (English)

As you may know, KBS (Korean Broadcasting Systems) is the public broadcasting company in Korea, which is equivilent to the BBC in the UK. It is a great source to find informaiton on Korean film. Their Korean site is more comprehensive, but the English version is impressive, nonetheless. Sometimes Korean sites have a problem with English, but this site has no such problem.

Yonhap News (Korean) (English)

Like Reuters in the U.K, they are a news agency and the biggest one at that. As a result, they cover everything including film. LIke KBS ,the English edition has no problems with the English Language

Chosun News (Korean) (English)

Another powerful news outlet. Their Korean edition is very conservative and makes it very difficult to read, even for Koreans. The English edition is the same. They resort to traditional English, but it doesn't always flow, so I wish they would stick to a formula that would work. However, their film coverge is extensive, so it is strongly worth a look.

Twitch (English)

A website dedicated to cinema in general. A fantastic source for any area of film, not least Korea. They have a journalist who goes by the name, X, who is a great writer and full of information. He used to write for Darcy's site, koreanfilm.org.

Firecracker Magazine (English)

A site run by Nick and Ericka who are about to get married next month. It explores Asian film and obviously Korea fulls under that umbrella. Both terrific writers and the site is designed in a very contemporary and attarctive format. They issue a FREE online magazine every month and they also have recently launched a hardcopy magazine, which is FREE and available from many cinemas (Prince Charles Cinema, Curzon..)  in London and beyond. They also run a  festival each, which features a range of Korea films.

Londonkoreanlinks (English)

Philip Gowman has a site, which is dedicated to a whole range of Korean aspects. A fantastic site to find out what is happening in London and beyond with regards to Korean events. He also has quite a lot of information about Korean film.

Hancinema  (English)

It is a great Korean Film database, which I find very useful. It does have its limitations though. Although most films are included in their database, some are not, but the ones that are, it is a great source to turn to.

Korean Film Archive (Korean) (English)

This is another extensive database and it has everything you would need if you are looking for some information. It is also regualrly updated and a must if you want to conduct some research on Korean film.

KOFIC (Korean) (English)

This is the official film council. Much of sources come from here. It has everything from stats to news. There are also FREE downloads on extenive articles/features on popular film directors like Bong Joon-ho.

Screen International (Subscription required)  (English)

This is a fantsatic source for me and I cannot recommend it enough. It does come a cost though. Somewhere around £150* a year, but this includes a weekly edition of their hard copy magazine delivered straight to your door as well as full use of their site. It mainly covers tthe financial/buisness aspect of Korean films, but this doesn't make it dull in any sense. Darcy used to write for them, before he moved to variety and now Jean Noh writes for them. She is equally as good.

* For UK residents

wang-ui-namja.com (English). This an unofficial fansite for the film, The King and the Clown. It includes alot of info and more importantly an opportunity to discuss the film through a forum. The site is led by Nslan who has a real passion for the film. It is certainly a site you should visit if you are at all interested in the film.

Tour2Korea (English)

If you ever want to take a trip to Korea, this is the site to go to. From information about the language to where to go, it has everything.  It also has alot of information on Korean film.

m-dream.co.uk (English)

This site is dedicated to Asian entertainment and culture. Although it has a strong Chinese focus, there is a great deal of Korean content on this site

Daum (Korean)

Very tabloid, but a great source for film gossip.

Naver (Korean)

Likewise, focussed on gossip, but if you can understand Korean, you can you be stuck reading this site for hours, literally.

The following sites are all in Korean but are great sources for Korean films. They are as follows:

Cine 21

Film 2.0

Cini Seoul

NKino

Cini Bus

Movie Week

There are many more sites, but these are the sites I reguarly use and as a result I a can recommend them. If you do come across a site you find very helpful, drop me a link and I will have a look and if it's any good, I will include it above.
