CJ Entertainment London Korean Film Festival
Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, the CJ Korean Film Festival has been cancelled. However, a Korean Film Festival, which is to take place in November in London and beyond is confirmed and I will keep you updated in due course.
History of London Korean Film Festival
This was the first festival in the UK, which has focused exclusively
on Korean films. It has been running since 2002 when it was started by
the University of London Korean society. At first it screened DVD's to
audiences in Central London and then continued to do the same the
following year with titles such as Oldboy and Memories of Murder. Then following the huge success of Oldboy and Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring the
festival managed to get significant funding from LG and CJ
Entertainment, which meant they could screen the films on 35mm
(conventional cinematic format) via a projector. Therefore in 2005 the
London Korean Film Festival moved to the Prince Charles Cinema where it
attracted in excess of 7,000 people. We had to turn away almost 800
people of the screening of Taegugki.
LIkewise in 2006 (Programme and photos below) the festival saw a similar line of success, which saw hundreds of people queuing right into the heart of Leicester Square.
So where do I fit into all of this? Well, for the past two years I have been the marking/PR Manager for the Festival and I plan to continue fullfilling this role during my time in the UK. It has been invaluable experience and I have had the chance to work with great people. It also means I can keep you updated with all the latest information regarding the festival, which is likely to take place next May. We have big plans next year and a few possible changes, which will inevitably benefit those who attend. If you didn't make this year's, have a look at what was on offer and try and make next years. It will be well worth it.

London Korean Film Festival (22nd - 26th May)
at the Prince Charles Theatre, Leicester Sq, LONDON

It's May again and like last year I am the PR/marketing Manager again for this festival. It is the biggest Korean festival in the UK and is even fast becoming one of the biggest Korean festivals in Europe with 8 or 9 Korean films seeing premiere releases.

FRI: 21:00 YEON-AE-UI MOK-JEOK (RULES OF DATING) (18)
Please note, this is the revised schedule, since Rules of Dating had to be moved to Friday, due to some technical diffculties. Princess Aurora was put in its place. And what a brilliant that film is!!!
TICKETS ARE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WILL BE NO PRE-BOOKED TICKETS. I SUGGEST YOU GET TO THE CINEMA WELL IN ADVANCE.
ALTHOUGH I CANNOT PREDICT AS SUCH WHAT FILMS WILL BE POPULAR, I HAVE A STRONG FEELING 'MY SCARY GIRL' AND 'PRINCESS AURORA' WILL GO VERY QUICKLY. KOREANS ARE VERY INTERESTED IN THESE FILMS, SO JUST BE WARNED. THAT SAID, HOWEVER, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN, BUT AFTER THE CHAOS OF TAEGUGKI LAST YEAR I THOUGHT I WOULD WARN YOU.
All these films have been released in the last year, so there will be alot of Koreans interested in attending. I just dont want you guys to miss out, so please make sure you allow some time to wait for your ticket.
Last year saw in excess of 7,000 visitors attending the festival, which was a great success. There was a range of films including Brotherhood (태극기 휘날리며) and Rikidozan (역도산) by Song Hae-Seong (송해성), who actually attended the screening. Last year, all films were 'free' to get into, which obviously aided the success. This year will remain the same and SAMSUNG are sponsoring the event so they may be giving away televisions and phones.. Dont quote me on that, but that is what I heard.
